i believe that when it comes down to it, there are three types of honour students. In most schools you see the smartest being in the senior class being honored by becoming Valedictorian. In life you see scientists and inventors being honored by winning the Nobel prize.
one. the ones that do all their homework, study for test, spend hours worrying about their grades
two. the ones that are just naturally smart and don't make an effort but are just in the honour classes because of their brilliant minds
three. everyone else in between one and two
Back to Jenny's quote I was thinking about her number three point. Who would you say is "everyone else in between one and two"? Everyone has their different opinions on who those people could be, in my opinion I would think these people to be the "regulars", people who go to school with a regular schedule in regular classes. People who aren't the smartest of them all but not dumb. People who go to school, expecting no praise at all. These people to me seem to be honored the least. I mean who wants to honor someone normal right? wrong. Sometimes the most regular people are the people that need to be honored the most. In schools you will see teachers and principals awarding the extraordinary students who go to infinity and beyond with big awards. But what about the not so obvious "regular" people? They get a sticker?
I love it when these type of people really shine through and really voice there opinions or go the extra mile or really make someone drop their jaw with surprise. Sometimes these people really need to be honored. They truly become and show they are honored and regular students when they really shine.
So it makes me think are regular people really regular? Or are the honored students who just aren't as bold and haven't found themselves through yet. It truly amazes me when they do become bold even if it is temporary! In group discussions with my regulars english class this last year I was able to see people truly shine with their opinions and what they believe in. We were able to get really good discussions out of peoples opinions, and I really love discussions so you must imagine how much I enjoyed these days. Regular people are really the most extraordinary people you will ever meet, you just have to give them the chance to be extraordinary. Thats a lesson a lot of teachers need to learn.
So there is my crazy unorganized train of thought for you, sorry if it doesn't make sense but it makes sense to me and I guess that is really what counts. If you don't agree, awesome!!
